Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about your numbers
How VigCheck works, what it can prove, and what happens to your data.
What is a “vig”?
Vig is short for vigorish — the built-in fee the house charges on every bet. It is the hidden cost most people who gamble never see. VigCheck is named after it because the platform shows you the real, total cost of your gambling, not just wins and losses you remember.
What does VigCheck do?
VigCheck analyzes your bank transactions with AI to find every gambling-related deposit and withdrawal across every platform you use. It calculates your true net win/loss, maps behavioral patterns over time, and generates reports you can use personally, in litigation, or in a clinical setting. It is not a blocker and not a lecture — just the truth about your money.
How does VigCheck find gambling transactions in my bank statements?
VigCheck combines a curated database of known gambling merchants with AI categorization for everything else. Each transaction is classified, gambling activity is separated from everyday spending, and deposits and withdrawals are reconciled per platform to compute your net position. Every categorization is transparent, so you can see exactly why a transaction was flagged.
Can bank statements prove gambling losses?
Yes. Bank and card statements record every transfer to and from gambling operators, which makes them strong objective evidence of gambling activity. VigCheck reconstructs total deposits, total withdrawals, and net loss from those records, and its litigation reports document the full methodology so the analysis can withstand scrutiny in legal proceedings.
How do I import my transactions?
Three ways: connect your bank securely through Plaid for read-only access, upload PDF or CSV bank statements, or enter transactions manually. You can combine sources, and VigCheck deduplicates overlapping records automatically.
Which gambling platforms can VigCheck detect?
VigCheck recognizes hundreds of operators — sportsbooks like DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, and Caesars, online casinos, daily fantasy, sweepstakes casinos, and payment processors commonly used for gambling. AI categorization also catches new and less common platforms that static lists miss.
Does VigCheck block gambling or judge how I spend?
No. VigCheck is not a blocker, a lecture, or a treatment program. It is financial intelligence for people who gamble: clear numbers, real patterns, and full context so you can make your own decisions. Your money, your data, your choice.
Is my financial data private and secure?
Yes. Bank connections are read-only through Plaid, personal identifiers are redacted before any AI analysis, credentials are encrypted, and your data is never sold. You can permanently delete your analyses, reports, or entire account at any time.
How do attorneys use VigCheck?
Attorneys use VigCheck to turn raw financial records into litigation-ready evidence: total loss reconstruction, behavioral timelines with non-diagnostic clinical context, and court-ready PDF reports with a transparent, documented methodology. Client profiles let firms manage evidence, intake data, and multiple analyses per client.
How do counselors use VigCheck?
Counselors use VigCheck to bring objective financial data into assessment and treatment. Clinical reports combine transaction evidence with self-report data, present non-diagnostic behavioral indicators, and track outcomes between sessions — giving both counselor and client a shared, factual picture of gambling behavior.
How do treatment centers use VigCheck?
Treatment programs use VigCheck to measure gambling treatment outcomes objectively across their caseload: treatment-outcome reports that compare periods to show change, validated assessment batteries (PGSI, PHQ-9, GAD-7, C-SSRS screener) with longitudinal trends, and consent-gated client data sharing designed with 42 CFR Part 2 obligations in mind.
What types of reports can I generate?
Four report types: a personal report for your own clarity, a litigation report formatted for legal proceedings, a clinical report for treatment settings, and a treatment-outcome report that compares periods to show change over time. All reports are generated as professional PDF documents.
